The Boston Tea Party wasn't about taxes, it was about tax loopholes that favored the East India Company over local business! Stacey Mitchell, senior researcher with the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, tells us that a purely consumer-based response is not sufficient and asks, "how do we take the first step from a trend to a political movement?" We depend on your support to help strengthen and expand our reach on the Peninsula. The rapidly escalating Localization Movement is strong and vibrant, in part, because of your support and that of other independent business owners.

We are involved in:

  • Public education about the value independents can provide as well as the vital economic, social and cultural role independent businesses play in the community.
  • Facilitating cooperative promotions, sharing of skills and resources and other activities to help local businesses compete more effectively
  • Creating a strong and uncompromised voice to speak for local independents in the local government

    Who We Are

Hometown Peninsula is a non-profit educational organization that relies upon fundraising and donations. We look forward to hearing from you, and are happy to address your questions. Email us at Info@HometownPeninsula.org.

Hometown Peninsula encourages consumers to consider the advantages of making choices that benefit the local economy and to shift their spending behaviors to benefit locally-owned businesses and our Peninsula communities. We also aim to educate our civic leaders on the importance of developing policies that support independent businesses to keep our communities of locally owned enterprises vibrant and strong.

    WHY SHOP LOCAL
We all know how fun it is to shop locally in our Peninsula communities, but there's more to it:

    1. PROTECT LOCAL CHARACTER AND PROSPERITY -- Our peninsula communities are unlike anywhere else in the world. By choosing to support locally-owned businesses, you help maintain each of our town's diversity and distinctive flavor.

    2. COMMUNITY WELL-BEING -- Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and by contributing more to local causes.

    3. LOCAL DECISION MAKING -- Local ownership means that important decisions are made locally by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions.

Hometown Peninsula Local First Brand

You can see the benefits of partnering with Hometown Peninsula on the pages of our website. Becoming a member of Hometown Peninsula is really about stimulating your engagement in the movement, and ultimately branding the local first message. The local first movement is driven by the same entrepreneurship and ethic that drive indie businesses, and we encourage you to be engaged.

Hometown Peninsula Local First Movement

What does it mean to engage in Hometown Peninsula’s Local First Movement?

HtP members:

·     Understand the value of and support locally-owned independent businesses

·     Proudly and visibly display, “Local First” media in the windows of their businesses

·     Stay connected through this site and posting events within their communities

·     Actively update their profiles and watch our Events Page for upcoming meetings and events

·     Educate and train their staff, customers, friends and neighbors about the importance of supporting locally owned independents

But where we really make a difference is by donating – donating our time and voice to the movement is just as important as financial support. Members who participate in and develop periodic events designed to both educate the public and encourage public involvement see the greatest return on their membership investment.

What Can I Do Now?

Even before joining, follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Read our Blog. Talk to your neighboring independent business owners. And, of course, support their businesses!
